Romanian Syllabi


Romanian 101: Elementary Romanian I
Romanian 101 is a course designed to develop and practice basic communication skills (listening, speaking, reading, writing) in Romanian. In addition to providing instruction in the above skills, Romanian 101 is also designed to acquaint the students with some aspects of Romania's cultural traditions.
Romanian 102: Elementary Romanian II
Romanian 102 continues to develop and practice the basic Romanian language skills acquired in Romanian 101: Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking. These skills are developed by reading texts and dialogues, as well as through conversation exercies incorporating questions on the texts and related topics. Class discussions are designed to promote acquisition of a greater confidence in your speaking and listening skills.
Romanian 111: Intensive Intermediate Romanian
The main objective of this course is to continue to develop your communication skills in Romanian in speaking, reading, and writing. This course serves as a sequence after Romanian 102.
Romanian 235: Romanian Culture.
This course is intended to introduce students to the distinctive character of Romanian culture, within the context of Eastern Europe. Development of cultural traditions will be presented with particular emphasis on their dynamic role in modem and contemporary Romanian culture. Literature, the visual arts and music will be explored in a comparative perspective and within the context of various historical periods. Taught in English.
