The goal of the seminar is to discuss the main issues in the field of bilingualism from the psycholinguistic perspective. The selected readings will reflect current findings in studies on bilingual populations of various linguistic backgrounds. One week of the quarter will be devoted to each topic. The instructor will begin each topic by introducing students to the main concepts relevant to the discussed topic and by giving an outline of the research interests pertaining to the subject. Students are expected to do all assigned readings, participate in and significantly contribute to class discussions, present two readings, and submit a mini-research paper on the topic of their choice in the field of bilingualism. Attendance is mandatory.
The final grade will be calculated as following:
For those students who enrolled for 3 credits:
choice (not from the list of readings, each reading should come from a different topic and be presented at the time assigned in the schedule for a topic) 60% (30 % each)

For those students who enrolled for 5 credits:Total: 100%
The following criteria will be used in evaluating presentation of a selected reading: |

Presentation of the research proposal should reflect general ideas (abstracts) of , at least 3 new articles (3pts) and the experimental/ research design pertaining to the selected topic, i.e. subjects, method, stimuli, type of analysis - qualitative or quantitative-, etc. (5 pts.), handout (2pts).
Research paper (due 03.22.04)
By the second week of the quarter, students are supposed to choose one of the topics of the seminar for their research paper. If they want to research a bilingualism area that is not reflected in the topics of the seminar, they should first discuss it with the instructor. The research paper should be of the following format:
(based on, at least, 3 new articles not discussed in class) 50%
3. Proposed experimental/ research design to contribute to the field 40%

The length of the paper is 8-10 pages (double spaced)
