Add to Calendar 2012-10-26 14:00:00 2012-10-26 18:30:00 The Challenge of Translating Poetry: A Conversation with Joanna Trzeciak and Russell Scott Valentino This year's Found in Translation Award winner Joanna Trzeciak (Kent State) will hold a discussion with Russell Scott Valentino (U Iowa) about her translation of Tadeusz Różewicz's Sobbing Superpower, her work on an anthology of 20th century Polish poetry, as well as the theory and practice of translating poetry. Valentino is a noted scholar of translation theory, as well as a prolific translator from Italian, Croatian and Russian. The conversation will be followed by a reception for Trzeciak, at which she will be awarded the prize by the Found in Translation committee. The Found in Translation Award is administered by the Book Institute and the Institutes of Polish Culture in London and New York and it is presented annually to the best translation of Polish literature and poetry into English. The laureate of the prize is honoured with a sum of ten thousand złotych as well as a three-month scholarship stay in Kraków, funded by the Warsaw-based Wydawnictwo WAB publishing company.Reception to follow at 5pm at the Faculty Club.Sponsored by The Polish Support Fund, the Polish Cultural Institute of New York, and the OSU Polish Studies Initiative.
