East European and Slavic Studies Library

The East European and Slavic Studies collection contains approximately 500,000 books and journals of which the great majority are in the languages of the region (Russian, Polish, Old Church Slavonic, Bulgarian, Serbo-Croatian, Romanian, etc.) The majority of these cover the broad area of the humanities and social sciences, reflecting the diverse interests of OSU's scholars and students.

The Hilandar Research Library houses the largest collection of medieval Slavic manuscripts on microform in the world providing a collection used by scholars from all over the world.

The Current Digest of the Post-Soviet Press
A weekly language overview of Russian language newspapers and periodicals essential to following events in Russia and the former Soviet Union.

Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies

The Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies is an interdisciplinary unit in the College of Humanities dedicated to the study of Europe and its neighbors from the end of the Roman Empire through the seventeenth century.

Individualized Instruction Learning Center

The Individulized Instruction Learning Center houses the Russian I.I. office, along with the I.I. offices for several other languages. At the front desk you will be able to access all the sign-up sheets and schedules pertinent to your Individualized Instruction program. The front desk attendant will also provide you with written tests that you have signed up for in advance that have been put out for you by a Russian I.I. instructor. There is also limited access to satellite television and other audio-video equipment depending on scheduling and availability.

World Media and Culture Center
Home of the Crane Café (with Russian language television programming), the SBC IILC Center, the OIT Computer Center, Multi-media classrooms, the Hall Videoconferencing Center, the FLC Studio, HIS Studio, and others, the World Media and Culture Center provides many of the tools necessary for the Slavic Department.

Slavic Center Job List
The Job List will be emailed to subscribers twice each month and will feature job openings in the non-profit and governmental sectors related to Russia and Eastern Europe. The job list is free of charge. To subscribe, contact csees@osu.edu.

Slavic Center Film Library.The library offers a wide variety of documentary and feature films, videotapes, and DVDs with over 1800 English, Russian, Polish, Czech, Hungarian, Romanian, Serbo-Croatian, Slovak, Ukrainian, Uzbek, and Yiddish titles. Videos may be rented free of charge at the Slavic Center, 303 Oxley Hall (1712 Neil Ave). Language Tables
If you would like to practice your language skills in a non-classroom environment, need help with your homework, or are interested in meeting other students, then come join us in one of the weekly Language Tables. For more information, please contact the Slavic Department.
Russian Language Table, Thursdays 7:00-9:00pm, Woody's (Ohio Union)

Czech Language Table, Thursdays 6:30-8:00 pm, Potbelly's Restaurant (Gateway Center)

Russian Language Table is held on Thursdays from 7-9:00 pm in Woody's in the Ohio Union.

Serbo-Croation Language Table, Fridays 4:30-5:30 pm, Bernie's (1896 N. High St.)

Uzbek Language Table, Wednesdays, 4:30-5:30 pm, Crane Café (Hagerty Hall, 1st Floor)

Kapustnik
Once a quarter, the Slavic Department hosts kapustnik, where students, graduate students, and faculty are all invited to show their special talents. Some of the more popular events have been skits, singing, dancing, and films. Offered on the 8th week of every quarter, all are invited to participate, attend, and try some delicious Slavic and East European food. For more information, please contact the Slavic Department.

Russian Club
The Russian Club, which meets regularly, hosts a number of events, including speakers, film nights, food nights, and trips to important cultural locations. For more information on how to get involved in the Russian club, please contact the Slavic Department.

Dobro Slovo
The Ohio State University is home to the Psi Chapter of Dobro Slovo, the National Slavic Honor Society, which has local chapters at universities throughout the U.S. Dobro Slovo recognizes academic achievement in the field of Slavic Studies. Student membership is attained by meeting three criteria: completing at least two years (or equivalent) of study of Slavic languages, literature, culture, or related subjects; achieving a grade-point average of 3.5 in all Slavic course work, with a grade-point average of 3.0 overall; and indicating an active and continuing interest in Slavic languages, literature, culture, and related fields of Slavic Studies. While one does not have to be majoring in Slavic to become a member, many of the members are graduate students in Slavic and undergraduate majors in Russian.
