Welcome!

The coordinating advisor, your faculty academic advisor, and your ASC advisor are all available to help you when considering a Russian Major, a Russian Minor, or a Slavic and East European Studies Minor.

Our advisors are willing and available to help you answer any questions regarding:

Coordinating Advisor:

The first person you should contact to find out about becoming a Russian major, Russian minor, or Slavic minor is the coordinating advisor, Daniel Collins. The coordinating advisor helps to sign up and coordinate new majors and minors with their faculty academic advisors. Students should consult the coordinating advisor about technical questions and problems, including choosing and/or changing academic advisors.

The coordinating advisor will begin the process of filling out a major program form with core courses before sending the student to her/his faculty advisor to decide on the concentration courses.

Contact Daniel Collins.

Faculty Academic Advisor:

Each major and minor in the department may choose her/his own academic advisor in consultation with the coordinating advisor. Students will make appointments to see their faculty advisors regularly to plan and carry out the academic program.

A faculty academic advisor can be an invaluable resource for the undergraduate experience, for academic advising of all kinds, and for conversations about career paths and graduate or professional school. In addition, an advisor who has had regular contact with her/his advisee can often write well-informed letters of recommendation for scholarships, study abroad, jobs and graduate programs

ASC Advisors:

Although Russian majors and minors should have regular contact with advisors in the department about their Russian program, students should also make sure to stay in touch with the advisors at the College of Arts and Sciences. ASC advisors are better able to monitor progress toward the completion of the General Education Curriculum and toward graduation.
