Individualized Instruction

Students proceed at their own speed in I.I. coursework. Students earn credit one quarter hour at a time. As soon as the student passes a unit test at a grade of 80% or better, he/she is permitted to go on to the next unit. Unit grades accumulate to form the quarterly grade. The minimum passing grade is B- (80%). A student may earn as few as 2 credit hours in one quarter, or as many as 39.

Although students work primarily with self-instructional materials in the Learning Center or at home, a trained instructor is available approximately 25-30 hours a week in the Learning Center to assist them.

Nine full Russian courses are available in the individualized format every quarter. You can begin at any level and make up your own semi-intensive, intensive or super-intensive course.

A general program outline is available online here.

For more information about Individualized Russian courses stop by the Learning Center at 120 Hagerty Hall during office hours or phone the Foreign Language Center (292-7060) or the Slavic Department office (292-6733).
