Czech Courses

Attention! Students who have learned any Czech outside of a university setting, including as a home language, while living abroad, or through study at the pre-college level, are required to take the EM/placement test prior to enrolling in Czech courses at OSU. Students who have studied Czech at a different university or as part of a summer program may be eligible for transfer credit. Learn more about transfer and placement.

Czech 1101

Elementary Czech I

Offered: autumn | 4 credit units

Introduction to Czech; development of speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills in cultural context. Closed to native speakers. Prereq: Not open to students with credit for 101, or 2 or more years of study in this language in high school, except by permission of department. This course is available for EM credit. Czech 1102

Elementary Czech II

Offered: spring | 4 credit units

Continued development of speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills in cultural context. Closed to native speakers of this language. Prereq: 1101 (101.01). Not open to students with credit for 102 or 103. This course is available for EM credit. GE for lang course. FL Admis Cond course.


Czech 1103

Intermediate Czech I

Offered: autumn | 4 credit units

Continued development of speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills in cultural context.

Prereq: 1102 (102.01). Not open to students with credit for 104, or to native speakers of this language through regular course enrollment or EM credit. This course is available for EM credit. GE for language course.


Czech 2104

Intermediate Czech II

Offered: spring | 4 credit units

Increasing functional ability in speaking, listening, reading, and writing practice, vocabulary-building; new grammar structures; start developing higher-level language skills in Czech. Closed to native speakers.

Prereq: 1103, or 5 cr hrs for 104.51 or 111. Not open to students with credit for 407.51.
