The 22nd Naylor Memorial Lecture began much like they have in years past, with Dr. Angela Brintlinger opening the event by beginning to introduce Dr. Brian Joseph, the Kenneth E. Naylor Professor. What set this lecture apart, however, is that Dr. Brintlinger instead introduced two of Dr. Joseph’s colleagues, Drs. Daniel Collins and Andrea Sims, who presented him with a Festschrift on the 40th anniversary of his service at Ohio State. The Festschrift, "And Thus You are Everywhere Honored," was edited by Drs. James J. Pennington, Victor A. Friedman, and Lenore A. Grenoble. Over two dozen chapters make-up the volume, which is now on display in the Slavic Department’s main office in Hagerty Hall.
While the presentation of the Festschrift was certainly a hard act to follow, Dr. Panayiotis Pappas (Simon Fraser University) delivered a lively and informative lecture, “Greek Dialect Features in the Speech of Greek Canadians: An Unexpected Treasure Trove.” An abstract of Dr. Pappas’ talk can be found on the event webpage. The 23rd Naylor Memorial Lecture will be presented by Dr. Mark Janse (Ghent University). For more information on the 2020 lecture, please visit the event webpage.
