Sean Ray completed his BA in International Studies at the University of Mississippi and MA in International Studies at the University of Denver. He has worked in the department as the editorial assistant for Slavic and East European Journal since 2017. His research focuses on expressions of nationalism in Russian literature. He is specifically interested in how nineteenth-century Russian writers interpreted and framed key imperial moments of victory and defeat.
Aleksandra Shubina completed her BA and Graduate of Arts in both English and Russian Languages and Literature at Northern Arctic Federal University. Her research interests center around the history of Soviet animation.
Natalia Sletova comes to Ohio State from the University of Arizona where she completed her MA in Russian and Slavic Studies. Her current research interest is mostly concentrated in how working memory affects L2 learning. She is planning on conducting a study next semester with students in second-year Russian. The purpose of the study is to compare the accuracy of written and spoken recall in L2 depending on an individual’s working memory capacity. She hopes to connect her results to a possible methodological recommendation for a second/foreign language classroom. Her research interests focus on how including cultural components in language learning positively contribute to a student’s language abilities. Natalia was awarded a University Fellowship for the 2019-20 academic year.
