One of our favorite events each semester is our talent show, Kapustnik. Our language students, graduate students, faculty and staff gather to enjoy some Slavic food and enjoy the performances put on by our language courses. After a two year hiatus, Kapustnik returned in the Autumn 2021 term! Gabbie Fisher, a Russian language student, had this to say about the return of the beloved event:
This year’s Kapustnik was absolutely wonderful. It was the first large event that the Slavic Department had put together since the start of the pandemic. It was amazing to be in an actual room with people and to see old friends, professors, and classmates in person instead of seeing faces on a screen. The department put on a great show, with students performing lots of skits, songs, and dances. There was one particular skit from Russian 1101 that had everyone laughing. The small group of students performed a scene from an airport, where a comical thief befriended his targets before taking their items. Kapustnik provided a great environment for students and faculty to laugh and unwind during this stressful time. There were many winners this year, due to the great effort shown by students and teachers from the entire department, who demonstrated how grateful they were to have Kapustnik back after two years!
