We are proud to announce this year's recipients of the FLAS Fellowship in the Department!

Helen Myers received a FLAS Fellowship for the 2012-2013 academic year. Also, congratulations to Michael Furman, Kate White, and Dusty Wilmes on receiving FLAS grants for summer 2012.

Michael Furman will use the fellowship in order to study how people use linguistic variables in order to affiliate or disaffiliate with social groups. Such research seeks to further our understanding of how the language we use is reflective of our social relationships and the group identities that these relationships both create and sustain. His research will be based in Warsaw. Kate White will study in Moscow for 6 weeks, focusing on advanced Russian language skills in an intenstive language program. Dusty Wilmes intends to use his funding towards a summer Polish language program at Jagiellonian University in Krakow.

Congratulations and best wishes to them all!
