Dr. Helena Goscilo Retires from Ohio State

Dr. Helena Goscilo, a leading U.S. scholar in Slavic literature, culture, and film, retired from The Ohio State University in May 2022. Dr. Goscilo came to Ohio State from the University of Pittsburgh, where she had taught since receiving her Ph.D. from Indiana University. Upon arriving at Ohio State, Dr. Goscilo chaired the Department of Slavic and East European Languages and Cultures from 2009-2013 and then returned to the faculty to teach Russian literature as well as Polish and Russian film. An affiliate of both Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies and Film Studies, Dr. Goscilo taught hundreds of students on the Columbus campus both in-person and online, advising or co-advising four Ph.D. students and two M.A. students. While at Ohio State Dr. Goscilo also maintained her world-famous research productivity, authoring or co-authoring four books, forty-one articles and a series of journal articles and editing five volumes.
