SEELC graduate student Hope Wilson has been awarded a Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowship to study Tatar at Indiana University's SWSEEL program in summer 2014.

Hope's research interests relate to language change brought about by language contact. Tatar and Russian have been in contact for over 500 years and she plans to use her study of Tatar to improve her understanding of how this contact is manifest in the grammatical structure of the present day languages and the history of the languages, and to better understand the mechanisms of language borrowings and language contact, thereby contributing to what we know about the interaction not only of these two languages but of languages as a whole.

Congratulations, Hope!
