Snow Days with SEELC

Snow on the Oval

There's even more snow in Columbus today, so we asked some of our faculty, staff, and students about some of their favorite media to enjoy on a snowy day. See of some of the responses below!

Dr. Philip Gleissner

  • The film Pervye na lune (First on the Moon, Aleksei Fedorchenko, 2005). It is a mockumentary that explores the alternate history of a Soviet moon landing under Stalin.
  • Dmitri Alexandrovich Prigov: Soviet Text. A great new book of translations from the late Soviet conceptualist poet that was published by Ugly Duckling Press last year.

Mera Cronbaugh

Films:

  • Haytarma
  • Leviathan

Music artists:

  • Bulat Okudzhava (bard/folk music, Georgian),
  • Молчат дома (Molchat doma) (synth-pop, post-punk, Belarusian),
  • Anything put out by Ored Recordings, they are a group who do field recordings of traditional, folk, and modern music by artists in the North Caucasus. I like Pondar by Khava Khamzatova, a Chechen indie artist (link attached here: https://soundcloud.com/ored-recordings-1/khava-khamzatova-pondar). Their work can be found on bandcamp and soundcloud.

Books:

  • The Mountain and the Wall, by Alisa Ganieva
  • Ali and Nino, by Kurban Said

Dane Reighard

I'm from LA, but when I want to pretend it's a blustery snowy day, I'll listen to Joy Division or watch Edward Scissorhands
