Winter 2012 Kapustnik

Thanks to all of the language students and instructors who made Winter Quarter Kapustnik a fun event to end the quarter on! As usual, there was singing, dancing, instrumental music, skA student performs a dance at the quarterly talent showits, costumes, and the best part... FOOD. Departmental lecturer Marina Pashkova served as emcee and got to bestow some great prizes. (At least, we think that Russian chocolate bars are a pretty great prize.)

First prize went to Dayanna Volitich, a Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian language student who performed a solo dance from Vranje (right).

Second prize went to Russian 102 student Zacharia Cowan for a song that he wrote in Russian and sang while accompanying himself on the guitar. It was very cleverly written and funny - especially given that he only used the 101-102 level vocab! (Who says that beginning-level students can't say anything interesting?!?)

Third prize went to Izolda Wolski-Moskoff's Polish 102 class for its skit about a traditional Polish wedding (below).

Congratulations to the winners, and well done everyone!

The next Kapustnik will be in late May.
