“Im/migration and Ohio: Local Perspectives” will examine several ways in which im/migration is shaping the state of Ohio. In order to provide an overview of some pressing aspects of this larger issue, panelists will discuss the role of Ohio in human-trafficking of women from East Europe; the place of Latin@ communities in Ohio and the larger Midwest; and Columbus’s Somali community. After short presentations from each panelist, there will be a round-table discussion and a Q&A session with the audience.
The panel will feature the participation of Dr. Jennifer Suchland (Department of Slavic and East European Languages and Cultures); Dr. Lilia Fernandez (Department of History); and Abdi Roble and Tariq Tarey (Somali Documentary Project).
“Im/migration and Ohio: Local Perspectives” is sponsored by the Center for Latin American Studies, the Center of African Studies the Center for Slavic and Eastern European Studies, as well as the Innovation Group for the OSU Center for Ethics and Human Values.
