Summer Adventures 2025: Dr. Laura Siragusa Attends SLA Conference in Chicago

Happy Summer! The Summer Adventure Series at the Slavic Department returns with our first edition, featuring our very own Dr. Laura Siragusa.
Dr. Siragusa attended the The 2025 Society for Linguistic Anthropology Biennial Conference and shared some great photos from her experience. We are always inspired by our faculty engaging in such events, as they demonstrate not only the breadth of their and the Department's expertise, but also the many opportunities for students and scholars in this field!
See Dr. Siragusa's photos below and learn more about the SLA Conference and this event.
"The 2025 Society for Linguistic Anthropology Conference invites participants to explore the many ways that imagination critically shapes, reproduces, and transforms social worlds across times, spaces, and scales through discursive and non-discursive processes and practices."

Dr. Laura Siragusa (PhD Anthropology, University of Aberdeen, 2013) is a linguistic anthropologist and sociolinguist with a focus on environmental and historical anthropology.
Her research explores communicative practices within the broader context of language ecology, encompassing political, economic, social, and cultural dynamics. She has extensively studied language revival movements, human-environment relationships, and the materiality of language, among other significant topics.
